Why God? Song by Austin French

I heard this song on a particularly hard day. I was stuck in shame mode, blaming myself for me and my family's problems. I was frustrated with things I felt would never change, or at least take a long time to change. I felt discouraged, overwhelmed and defeated. When I heard this song, I was reminded of my source of strength. Although He let's us go through hard things, He still supplies the support and strength we need to get through those things. I heard someone I admire (Al Carraway) say recently that the biggest miracle we are to obtain from God is not prevention from problems. His help and healing through those problems is the biggest miracle we experience.

If I should Have a Daughter by Sarah Kay

I love this! Honesty about the hard times, but encouraging her to trust her strength and feel joy. I have a daughter and I have learned that in order for me to encourage my daughter this way, I need to work on believing it for myself!

Burnout

I love Jay Shetty's videos. I really relate to this one. Giving into temporary fixes like food, caffeine, and other vices just to be able to get through the day has been a hard cycle for me to break. He gives some great insights for why we get so burnt out and stuck, while also providing ideas of ways to help break the cycle.

Heal forward

This speech by Father  Gregory Boyle is amazing!
This quote in particular stood out to me:

“You stand with the disposable so that the day will come that we stop throwing people away.”

I know I have been guilty of overlooking people or putting people into categories of “good, bad, worthy, unworthy.”  But I chose social work as a degree because I wanted to help people. However it hasn’t been a textbook that’s driven me to understand what helping people takes. It has been through my own journey of depression, anxiety, medical trauma, shame, abuse, eating disorder, fear of abandonment, etc that has taught me empathy. In order to make a difference we need to practice empathy. In sharing these videos that bring awareness and hope, I am learning how people suffer, how people find joy and connection with others, and how we can heal emotionally, spiritually, mentally and physically as we look at where we’ve been, where we are and where we want to be. I believe when weopen our eyes, listen, learn, practice kindness and sacrifice for others, we learn how to heal and heal forward to the next generation.
